报告题目：Can Mathematics Solve Mysteries in Literature?（数学在文学中的应用）

报告摘要：

There have been no shortages of controversies in literature, from old questions such as whether Cao Xueqin wrote all 120 chapters of "Dreams of Red Chamber", widely known as the greatest work of Chinese literature, to new questions such as whether Obama actually wrote his autobiography "Dreams From My Father". For mathematicians, it is interesting to ask whether mathematics can be used to settle these controversies. In this talk, I will give an overview on how mathematics can be applied to ****yze the "style" of an author and the related field of study called "stylometry". I will show that mathematics can be used to almost definitively settle many such controversies.

报告人介绍：

汪扬教授于1983年在中国科学技术大学取得数学学士学位，1990年在哈佛大学取得博士学位。现任香港科技大学理学院院长，曾任美国密歇根州立大学数学系主任，香港科技大学数学系主任。研究兴趣涵盖了纯数学及跨学科数学两大范畴，主要研究领域包括小波分析，拼接问题，分形几何，数字信号处理，模拟数字转换，供应链管理等，发表超过100篇研究论文，很多论文刊登于顶尖的科学期刊。曾担任美国国家科学基金会的课程主任，现任Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications等四个国际学术期刊的副主编。
