报告人简介:
J. Ping Liu received his Ph. D degree in Applied Physics at the Van Der Waals – Zeeman Institute, the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is currently a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Arlington, USA and an Adjunct Professor at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, China. His current work is focused on nanostrucutred magnetic materials. He has organized and led several joint research programs in nanocomposite magnets. He has authored or co-authored more than 260 peer-reviewed publications, including review articles, book chapters and two books. He has supervised more than fifty postdoctoral researchers and graduate students. He is a Fellow of American Physical Society.
报告内容:
Rare-earth permanent magnets are essential for applications in energy conversion devices including high power motors and generators that are the key components for systems in clean energy and renewable energy technologies, for instance electric vehicles and wind mills. However, there are growing concerns over the scarcity of rare-earth resources and supplies which has triggered increasing attempts to replace rare earths in hard magnetic materials. In this talk, he will review some related issues from the resources to emergent new magnetic materials including rare-earth nanocomposite magnets that may replace the conventional rare-earth magnets in the future.
